Clemson Crew is looking for motivated athletes with a winning attitude. Competing in a sport that allows zero time-outs, our team consists of successful students whose endurance and passion for excellence extends off the water and into the classroom. Our novice program will fast-track you into the national varsity level, get you into the best shape of your life, and initiate you to a comradeship of the oar that will last a lifetime.

Q: How is the team organized?

A: Clemson Crew is organized into three squads. The co-ed novice program introduces first-year members to the collegiate level before graduating them to the varsity men and varsity women squads. Although each squad follows its own practice schedule, our team is very close as a whole.

Q: What kinds of events will I compete in?

A: Universal to collegiate rowing, rowers compete in 6k races in the fall and 2k races in the spring. Rowers usually compete in a coxed four or eight-oarsmen boat but also have the opportunity to compete in the team’s coxless single, double, or pair. Thanks to our large fleet of seaworthy boats, no prospective member is turned away and every novice competes once at every regatta.

Q: Is there another way I can get involved in crew?

A: We are always looking for coxswains. In a mentally taxing team sport, coxswains not only steer the boat but also give technical feedback, make sure the boat is moving in harmony, and push their oarsmen to row their hardest. Coxswains build a relationship with their crew and empower the boat to reach its full competitive potential.

Q: What if I don’t have rowing experience?

A: Don’t sweat it! 90% of the team began without prior experience. Our novice program will teach you everything you need to know and fast-track dedicated rowers of all athletic background to the national varsity level.

Q: Is the team competitive?

A: Yes! Our varsity men and women have earned medals at every conference regatta we attended last year. Just this summer, a varsity women’s four placed eleventh at Dad Vail - the largest collegiate regatta in the United States! With a powerhouse graduating novice class, Clemson Crew is well on its way to fulfilling our mission of becoming the most competitive team in the southeast.

Q: How can I get involved?

A: We’re glad you’re interested in joining the team! Please join us at our first interest meeting on Wednesday, August 24th, at 8:30 in Hardin TBA or email our recruitment chair. Practice will be held 5-7 p.m. beginning the following day  and rides will be provided from campus.
